Phi Mu at LSU-Shreveport
The sisters of Phi Mu at Louisiana State University in Shreveport welcome you to our website. This is just a glimpse of what we as Phi Mus at LSU-S pride ourselves on: sisterhood, scholarship, our philanthropic endeavors, diversity, and of course the history and tradition of this our sorority. Whether you are parents, alumnae, or students at LSU-S, we invite you to delve into our pictures, read up on what's new with our chapter, and explore the many facets of Phi Mu.
Phi Mu is the second oldest secret organization for women in the United States. Founded at Wesleyan College in Macon, Georgia on January 4, 1852, Phi Mu was announced publicly on March 4, 1852. Phi Mu was originally named the Philomathean Society when it was founded by three women, Mary Dupont Lines, Mary Myrick Daniel, and Martha Hardaway Redding. Our organization is known as a fraternity for women because the term sorority had not yet been coined.

Our Creed signifies who we are, everything our
Founders were, and everything that we strive to be. All of the words in our
Creed provide special meaning. Read carefully and realize the purposeful intent
of each word:
To lend to those less fortunate a helping hand.
To think of God as a protector and guide of us all.
To keep forever sacred the memory of those we have loved and lost.
To be to others what we would they would be to us.
To keep our lives gentle, merciful and just,
Thus being true to the womanhood of love.
To walk in the way of honor, guarding the purity of our thoughts and deeds.
Being steadfast in every duty small or large.
Believing that our given word is binding.
Striving to esteem the inner man above culture, wealth or pedigree.
Being honorable, courteous, tender,
Thus being true to the womanhood of honor.
To serve in the light of truth avoiding egotism, narrowness, and scorn.
To give freely of our sympathies.
To reverence God as our Maker, striving to serve Him in all things.
To minister to the needy and unfortunate.
To practice day by day love, honor, truth.
Thus keeping true to the meaning, spirit and reality of Phi Mu.
"To lend to those less fortunate a helping hand" is not just a line of our creed, it is what we live to do. Since there is not a local Children's Miracle Network, we help the local Shriner's Hospital as well as the Hal Sutton's Children's Hospital. These are both hospitals for disabled children. We have donated boo bunnies, Christmas ornaments, and our time to these children. We raise money that goes directly to the Children's Miracle Network Hospital in Little Rock, AR. Some of our fundraisers include selling Easter eggs and pumpkins, car washes, and calenders.
This year Phi Mu was honored to receive the Greek Organization of the Year award. We are also very proud of our own Lauren Wood, who was named Greek Woman of the Year.
